Design is a Joke

Good Design will illicit a visceral response.
Bad Design makes everyone uncomfortable.
Design that needs explanation has failed.

 August 2023 - present

“spasm bespoke” is a startup in India founded by me. The idea is to make luxury handmade furniture with traditional materials and techniques but modern forms and designs.

This is a work in progress!

Here are some of the designs. Please refrain from beating us to market.

RKS Design

July 2022 - July 2023

For a year I worked for RKS Design, a design consultancy based in California.

I worked closely with the engineering team to invent novel and proprietary technologies for many unique products. As the youngest person in the office I worked on just about everything whilst finding my niche, which ended up being electronics engineering.

What made working here so fun was the size of the company and being involved with all the meetings - design, engineering, presentations to clients and patent attourneys, manufacturing, etc.

I did, unfortunately, have to sign a non-disclosure agreement which is why I can’t disclose any details or final images/renders of projects.
I look forward to presenting my contributions once the products are on the market.

Spring 2021

The pandemic has made home cooking more popular than ever, and more and more people are interested in minimalistic, nomadic lifestyles. This modular heating element is so much more than a stove and an oven.

Stoven takes inspiration from the satisfying, tactile interfaces of high end audio. It uses similar, real world feedback to allow granular control of the cooking process without overwhelming buttons and options.

For this project, I built a working prototype to better understand the technologies involved.

Radical Wrenches

Fall 2019

EEK.

The adjustable wrench is a design that hasn't changed in over a 100 years. They are unergonomic, clunky and unstable. If the jaws slip even slightly (a common occurrence) the users risk stripping the bolt - or worse - hurting themselves.
No professionals I asked recommend using them.

Mechanical pragmatism, user-centered design and a unique aesthetic make Radical Wrenches the only wrench a normal household needs.

The muscle memory of using scissors or pliers makes Radical Wrenches intuitive - All while being cool enough to live in the kitchen drawer.

The print-in-place herringbone planetary gearset is perfect for the additive manufacturing processes of the future, like DMLS.
